Caol Ila, Distillers Edition
Islay Single Malt, 43% ABV
1997 vintage Caol Ila, bottled as part of Diageo’s superb Distillers Edition range. This was finished in Moscatel wine casks, and the result is a nuttier, fruitier whisky. Well worth a try.
| NOSE | Nutty and smoky on the nose with notes of sweet smoke, cloves and various other Christmas spices. Hints of ice wine, almond, Nutella on granary toast, and burnt sugar. |
| PALATE | Rich and thick with notes of toffee apples, cloves, nutmeg and cool wood smoke. Hints of oil, bruised rose petals, and soft peat. |
| FINISH | Long, briny and oily with a lot of smoke on the finish. Some cloves, some apple peel too. |
